ThinkGrow Model-W and Model-H Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights Review

ThinkGrow's grow lights offer the full spectrum and an adjustable spectrum, giving you two ways to tailor light for your plants. Their full spectrum design is also extremely efficient, so you can grow more plants with less power. Plus, these lights are waterproof IP56 and will work in almost any environment.

In this review, we'll look at ThinkGrow's Model-W and Model-H Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights and whether they are true to their claims.

Model-W

Vertical farming is an increasingly popular method for growing food, and it’s easy to see why. It saves space, provides a more controlled environment for growing plants, and allows you to grow more produce in less time. However, there’s one problem with vertical farming: It’s hard to get adequate lighting.

Thanks to ThinkGrow's  Model-W, specifically designed for high PPFD cultivation practices in vertical farming, growers can now grow crops efficiently and with the best possible results.

To know more about this light, let's walk through its features:

ThinkGrow Model-W 630W Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

Spectrum

The Model-W is a fixed full-spectrum light that has an extra 20W/ FAR red channel promoting plant growth. Because when plants receive far red photons, they respond by trying to find additional light because they believe that the ambient light is insufficient. As a result, plants will become taller or have larger leaves in order to capture more of this available resource—making it appear as if these circumstances lead them into direct sunlight. In this way, the light can be used to trick plants into growing at a faster rate.

Specifications

With a light output of 1600 umol/s, the Model W measures at 2.7 umol/J. Which shows a sufficient amount of light output without overpowering plants with too much of a good thing. In addition, the light has an average lifespan of 54,000 hours—getting you years of use out of this product. ThinkGrow says the light consumes 630 watts and 5.24A at full power on 120 volts. It also has a 2150 BTU/hour heat output.

But is the spectrum adjustable? No. The light is a fixed spectrum that does not offer you the ability to adjust the color of light it emits. However, it's dimmable, so you can adjust the amount of light it gives off.

Coverage Area and Hanging Height

Model-W can cover 4'x4' to 5'x5' with a mounting height of >6" above the canopy. This may not be the right choice if you are looking for a light that can cover a large area. But sure, in small spaces, it will do a great job.

Model-H

In similar with the Model-W, the  Model-H is also intended for vertical farming. Generally, it has the same feature as the Model-W, and it's also an excellent choice for small spaces. However, there are some differences between the two models.

Let's find out what sets Model-H apart from Model-W.

ThinkGrow Model-H 630W Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

Spectrum

The Model H uses full-spectrum white and red LEDs on separate channels that can be adjusted independently. With this, you can control the light spectrum to fit your plants' needs.

Expect a significant impact on plant growth from the full-spectrum white LEDs used in the Model-H. It causes more pronounced growth because it has a high proportion of green wavelengths. Red LEDs, on the other hand, trigger plant flowering and fruiting. Red light also stimulates seed germination, root expansion—and even bulb development in plants during their early stages of growth.

Specifications

With its 2.7 umol/j light output and 1700 umol/s maximum power draw (at total capacity), the Model-H draws 5.24A on 120 volts—or half this amount at 240 volts. Like Model-W, this light can also last a long time with the LEDs in their cold state—up to 50,000 hours.

But unlike the other model, it is capable of adjusting its spectrum—an advantage for growers looking to alter plant growth cycles by providing different types of lighting at various stages in the life cycle. With just one click on your remote control, you'll also be able to dim things down!

Coverage Area and Hanging Height

The Model-H has also a coverage area that can range from 4x4 to 5x5, depending on what kind of illumination you want for your plants. ThinkGrow recommends using this light as close as six inches from the plants in a 4x4 area. In this way, the light will penetrate deeply into the canopy and give you the best results.

Model-H and Model-W are both great options for indoor gardeners looking to improve their lighting system, especially in the flowering phase. Both come with a 5-year warranty, and both have a coverage area that ranges from 4x4 to 5x5. With these two models, ThinkGrow proves that they are a reliable brand that can be trusted by indoor gardeners.
