How to Make THC Vape Juice At Home

The process of finding the right THC vape juice can be a challenge. There are many different brands and flavors to choose from, but not all will provide the experience you're looking for. Some will be too strong or too weak; some will taste like candy or fruit, which might not appeal to some users; some will leave your mouth feeling dry after use, and others will leave your mouth feeling sticky and uncomfortable.

So if you're looking for the best THC vape juice, the ideal scenario would be to make it yourself.

What is THC Vape Juice?

THC Vape Juice

THC vape juice is a type of cannabis extract that is used to make vapor. The THC vape juice that is available for purchase in the US is usually made from cannabis flowers, which are then extracted using CO2. This process produces a concentrated form of the plant's active ingredients—THC and CBD—that can be used in a variety of ways.

The most common way that people consume THC vape juice is by inhaling it as vapor, which can be done with either an e-cigarette or a vaporizer. Both devices use heat to convert the liquid into a gas, which you then inhale through your mouth and nose.

This method has become increasingly popular among people who use cannabis recreationally because it allows them to get high without smoking anything or causing any negative health effects associated with smoking.

How THC Vape Juice Differs from Other Forms of THC Consumption

THC vape juice offers a distinct alternative to traditional methods of consuming THC. Unlike smoking cannabis, vaping heats the liquid without combustion, eliminating the production of harmful byproducts like tar and carcinogens. This results in a cleaner and potentially healthier inhalation method. Additionally, vaping offers several advantages:

  • Discreet and Convenient: Vaping generates minimal, quickly dissipating odor, making it a more discreet option for consumption in various settings.
  • Precise Dosage Control: Users can accurately measure and customize the THC concentration in vape juice, ensuring a personalized experience that matches their tolerance and desired effects.
  • Flavor and Customization: THC vape juice comes in a vast array of flavors, and users can often adjust the ratio of THC to other cannabinoids for a tailored effect.
  • Portability: Vape devices are compact, making them easy to carry and use on the go.

While THC vape juice offers benefits, it's crucial to be mindful of potential risks and prioritize safety. Always source vape products from reputable vendors and exercise caution when using them.

  • Quality Control Issues: Unlike professionally manufactured vape cartridges, DIY vape juice lacks established quality standards. This increases the likelihood of leaks, clogs, device malfunctions, and unpleasant vaping experiences due to inconsistent formulas or improper preparation.
  • Upfront Costs and Effort: While potentially cost-effective in the long term, DIY THC vape juice requires an investment in equipment and supplies. The process demands extensive research, experimentation, and a substantial time commitment to master.

Safety Precautions When DIY-ing Your Own THC Vape Juice

Safety & Risks of DIYing THC Vape Juice at Home

DIY THC vape juice creation can be tempting, but it's essential to understand the serious risks involved. Certain extraction methods involve flammable solvents, potentially toxic chemicals, and the possibility of producing contaminated products. Prioritizing safety precautions isn't just smart, it's potentially life-saving. Here's how to protect yourself:

  • Proper Ventilation is Key: Work in a space with continuous fresh air circulation. Open windows, utilize powerful fans, or consider working outdoors. Stagnant air increases the risk of inhaling harmful fumes.
  • Wear Protective Gear: Gloves and safety goggles are non-negotiable when handling chemicals or extracts.
  • Fire Prevention: Absolutely no open flames, sparks, or excessive heat near your workspace, especially when working with flammable materials. Be aware of static electricity buildup, and take steps to ground yourself and your equipment if necessary.
  • Clean Your Equipment Thoroughly: Thorough cleaning of equipment after every use prevents cross-contamination and ensures product purity. Residues left on tools can lead to unexpected or harmful reactions in future batches.
  • Ensure Proper Waste Disposal: Follow local regulations for the disposal of solvents, plant matter, and any contaminated materials. Protect both your community and the environment from hazardous waste.
  • Be Prepared: Keep a fire extinguisher, well-stocked first aid kit, and emergency contact information readily available. Accidents can happen even with precautions – being prepared minimizes potential harm.
  • Knowledge is Power: Go beyond rote instructions. Understand the reasons behind safety measures. This deeper understanding allows you to adapt, troubleshoot, and react appropriately in unexpected situations.

Three Ways to Make THC Vape Juice

Long-term Steeping Method for Making THC Vape Juice

Long-term Steeping or Extraction

One of the easiest ways of making THC vape juice is through long-term steeping or extraction. While the process is easy, it takes around three months to create the juice.

Many believe that this process is almost hard not to get right, considering how effortless it is. It only requires the decarboxylation of your chosen strain and mixing it with your VG-PG solution.

If you wish to try this method, you will need the following:

  1. Grind your buds until they reach a coarse texture to ensure proper straining.

  2. Spread the roughly grounded buds on a baking sheet or oven-safe container, then cover them with foil. Decarboxylate the buds to activate the THC.

  3. While decarboxylating your buds, prepare your PG/VG solution. Consider mixing 40 percent PG and 60 percent VG to achieve desired consistency and flavor.

  4. After decarboxylation, let the buds cool, then transfer them to a mason jar or any airtight container. Pour enough PG/VG solution into the container to cover the buds.

  5. Stir the solution and place the container in a cool, dark place for steeping for the next three months. Stir the solution every two weeks to ensure even distribution. If buds are exposed above the solution, add more PG/VG solution.

  6. After three months, give the solution one more stir, then prepare to strain it.

  7. To strain the juice, place a rice press on top of a glass jar lined with cheesecloth. Pour the mixture into the rice press, then cover it with the cheesecloth.

  8. Use the cheesecloth as a filter and squeeze the juice into the container. Once you've finished squeezing out the juice, it's ready to be loaded into your syringe and vaped.

Fast-track Infusion

This method of making THC vape juice does not differ much from the steeping method but removes the long waiting time.

You will need the above items for this procedure, plus:

  1. Follow the steps outlined above until you've submerged the ground buds with the PG/VG solution.

  2. Fill both chambers of a double boiler with water, then heat it until the temperature reaches 220 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Once the water reaches 220 degrees Fahrenheit, place your PG/VG bud solution into the double boiler and allow it to heat to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Maintain this temperature for about an hour, adjusting as needed to keep it steady. You can extend the heating time for a more potent vape juice. Add additional PG/VG mixture as needed to maintain the desired consistency.

  4. After heating, allow the mixture to cool to a safe temperature.

  5. Strain the cooled mixture using the same method as in the steeping method, using a rice press lined with cheesecloth to filter out the solids.

  6. Once strained, the vape juice is ready to be loaded into your vape device and enjoyed.

Rosin Extracted THC Vape Juice

Rosin Extracted THC Vape Juice

This is probably one of the simplest ways of making vape juice with THC, although it does require using a rosin press or buying rosin beforehand. The nice thing about using a rosin press is that it heats your material as it extracts, removing the need for decarboxylation before extracting. You can also vape any rosin you'll make now & in the future using an e-nail once you have a rosin press.

For this method, you need the following:

  1. If you don't have rosin, follow the extraction process on your rosin press to produce rosin from cannabis flower or hash.

  2. Once you have rosin, mix one part rosin with two parts wax liquidizer in a pyrex glass container.

  3. Heat the mixture of rosin and wax liquidizer using a lighter or a boiling water bath until it reaches an appropriate temperature for mixing. Be careful not to overheat or burn the mixture.

  4. Once the mixture is sufficiently heated, stir it thoroughly until the rosin is fully dissolved into the liquidizer. Ensure that the mixture is well-incorporated and homogeneous.

  5. The recommended ratio for liquidizer/terpenes to rosin is 2:1. Adjust the proportions as needed to achieve the desired consistency and potency.

  6. Once mixed, your e-liquid is ready to be vaped. Use a syringe to transfer the mixture into a bottle or vape cartridge for convenient use with your vape device. Make sure to handle the e-liquid with care to avoid spills or leaks.
