THROUGH THE Cultivator's LENS Hands-On Evaluation

  • You are moving to bucket-based setups because you want to trial different nutrient mixes for separate plants.
  • You are upgrading to a recirculating drip system because you want the benefits of both deep water and top-feed growth.

  • The external level tubes with the floating red balls save you from pulling off lids to check reservoir volumes.
  • We suggest dialing in the airflow regulators individually since each plant uptake rate varies during the cycle.

  • Users report that the independent reservoir setup stopped their cross-contamination issues when one plant needed a change.
  • Growers who swapped to this system say the top-feed drip ring drastically increased their root zone development speed.

Vivosun 5 Gal DWC Hydroponic System - 4 Bucket Kit

Filling a grow tent with hydroponic plants usually means choosing between a shared RDWC loop, where every plant drinks the same solution, and a tangle of mismatched buckets and pumps. The Vivosun 5 Gal DWC Hydroponic System 4 Bucket Kit gives you four independent, light-blocked 5-gallon reservoirs driven by one 15W air pump with 25 L/min of adjustable output. You can run up to four plants with four different nutrient programs from a single setup.

Each bucket combines deep water culture with a recirculating top-feed drip ring. The pump feeds an 8-outlet air diffuser, which sends two lines to every bucket: one to a ball air stone that oxygenates the reservoir, and one that lifts solution through the water inlet tube to the drip ring over the clay pebbles. Eight inline check valves stop backflow toward the pump. Four airflow regulators let you fine-tune the balance between drip and bubbles on each bucket individually. The IPX4-rated pump runs under 40 dB.

The black, light-blocking buckets help keep light out of the reservoir. Each one has an external water level tube with a floating red ball, so you can check every bucket at a glance. Clay pebbles and an 8″ net basket are included for every site. The Vivosun 4 Bucket Kit is designed for indoor growing in tents, grow rooms, and basements, and works best with seedlings or cuttings that have already started rooting.

Features

🪣
4 Light-Blocked Buckets

Independent 5-gallon reservoirs let you grow four plants with different nutrient needs.

🫧
15W 25 L/min Air Pump

Adjustable, IPX4-rated pump powers aeration and drip for all four buckets at under 40 dB.

🔀

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I grow different plants in each bucket? +

Yes. Each of the four buckets operates independently with its own reservoir, so you can grow up to four different plants with different nutritional needs. That isn't possible in a shared RDWC loop.

How do I connect the air lines to the pump? +

Connect the pump's air outlet to the 8-outlet diffuser with a short piece of tubing and tighten it with clamps. Run two air tubes from the diffuser to each bucket, one to the air stone and one to the water inlet tube, then cut each tube near the diffuser and add an inline check valve. Make sure each valve's "IN" side faces the pump and its "OUT" side faces the bucket.

How do I balance drip flow and bubbles on each bucket? +

Install an airflow regulator on each bucket's drip line and rotate its cap to adjust. Turning it down (−) sends more air to the air stone and reduces drip flow, while turning it up increases the drip. You can also raise or lower the pump's overall output.

How much water should each bucket hold? +

With the power off, fill each bucket with clean water or a low-concentration nutrient solution to about 24 cm (9.5″), roughly the lower part of the basket. The floating red ball in each water level tube shows when levels drop.

Should the air pump run continuously? +

Yes. Vivosun recommends keeping the pump on at all times. If it stops or loses power, both the drip irrigation and reservoir oxygenation stop in all four buckets.

The drip ring sprays in bursts. Is something wrong? +

No, intermittent spraying is normal for this air-driven drip design. If a ring stops flowing, check that clay pebbles aren't blocking its outlet. Once the system has run for a while, the pebbles stay fully moistened around the roots.

What environment should I maintain for vegetative and flowering plants? +

For average plants, Vivosun recommends 300–600 µmol/m²/s of light, 74–84°F days, and 55–75% humidity during vegetative growth. During flowering, the recommendation is 600–1500 µmol/m²/s, 68–84°F days, and 50–60% humidity. Adjust these for your specific crop.

Can I use the 4 Bucket Kit outdoors? +

No. The system is designed for indoor use only. Keep the air pump on a flat, dry surface away from water, and avoid environments below 4°C or with high heat and humidity.

Can I start seeds or unrooted cuttings in the buckets? +

The system works best with seedlings and cuttings that have already started rooting. Root seeds or clones first in a propagation setup, then transplant them into the net baskets so their roots sit below the drip ring.
