THROUGH THE Cultivator's LENS Hands-On Evaluation

  • You are upgrading your water feature plumbing because your current pump loses too much pressure as you push the water up
  • You are switching to a higher flow unit because your current irrigation lines are not hitting their target volume

  • The 5-position outlet is a lifesaver because it lets you dial in the plumbing angle without fighting with extra elbows
  • We suggest keeping the pre-filter clear, as it saves the impeller from debris that would otherwise cause extra wear

  • Users with wide waterfall features say this unit maintains enough flow at height to keep the spillway looking full
  • Operators who switched from smaller pumps report that their filtration loops perform better now that water is moving

Vivosun 310W Submersible Water Pump (5300GPH)

A stream or wide waterfall needs volume at height, not just a high number at zero head. Most pond pumps lose that volume fast as the lift increases. The Vivosun 310W Submersible Water Pump (model PG5300-S) holds its output. It moves 4,042 GPH at 6.6 ft and 3,197 GPH at 9.8 ft, and still delivers 1,717 GPH at 14.8 ft. Peak flow is 5,300 GPH from a 310W motor that runs at 30–40 dB.

The Vivosun 310W Submersible Water Pump fits the same 9.3″ × 5.8″ × 11.5″ footprint as the 220W model but delivers about 18% more peak flow. That makes it a straightforward upgrade when your pond or water feature grows. Its 1-1/2″ inlet and outlet accept 1-1/4″ or 1-1/2″ ID tubing. Five outlet positions from 0° to 180° let you route the discharge without added elbows.

The pump uses a cool-running wet rotor/wet bearing motor and a silicon carbide ceramic shaft and drive ring that resist wear. Its IPX8 housing is built for continuous submersion, and a removable pre-filter screen protects the impeller. Rated for ponds up to roughly 840 gallons, it runs submerged or inline to power large ponds, streams, filtration loops, commercial hydroponic reservoirs, and irrigation systems. It's designed for fresh water only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 310W model compare to the 220W pump? +

Both share a 9.3″ × 5.8″ × 11.5″ body, but the 310W model delivers 5,300 GPH peak flow versus 4,500 GPH. It also holds more volume at height: 3,197 GPH at 9.8 ft compared with 1,783 GPH. Choose the 310W for ponds up to about 840 gallons or features with significant lift.

What flow should I expect at my outlet height? +

Measure the vertical rise from the pond surface to the outlet and find it in the Flow Rate by Head Height table above. For example, the Vivosun 310W Submersible Water Pump delivers about 4,042 GPH at 6.6 ft and 2,219 GPH at 13.1 ft.

Can I run it outside the pond as an inline pump? +

Yes. The pump supports both wet (submerged) and dry (inline) installations and works alongside pond filter systems. Connect it with 1-1/4″ or 1-1/2″ ID flexible tubing using the included insert fittings.

How do I reposition the outlet? +

Set the pump flat, then rotate the body within the handle/stand and lock it at Notch A, B, or C for the three middle positions. For the two outer positions, remove the impeller chamber cover and turn it by hand. Diagrams are in the user manual.

How do I clean or replace the impeller? +

Unplug the pump and rotate the front housing counter-clockwise to expose the impeller, then rinse out debris with a garden hose. To remove the impeller assembly, gently unlock it with needle-nose pliers as shown in the manual. Lubricate the shaft and O-ring with silicone before reinstalling.

Can I use this pump in saltwater? +

No. The Vivosun 310W Submersible Water Pump is designed for fresh water only. Keep it away from sand and fine grit, which can damage the water-lubricated rotor assembly.

What should I check if flow drops or the pump stops? +

Confirm the circuit breaker is working and try another GFCI outlet. Then inspect the inlet screen, tubing, and discharge for clogs. Make sure the impeller spins freely by hand with the cover removed.
