Setup & Maintenance

System Setup Steps:

1. Prepare Pots

Attach the necessary fittings to the pots.

2. Connect the System

Use piping to connect the pots and the header pot to establish the recirculating network.

3. Install Air System

Set up the air pump and connect it to the air stones in the pots.

4. Integrate Pumps

Install the water pump(s) for recirculation and chilling (if applicable).

5. Set Up Nutrient Tank

Connect the nutrient tank to the system.

6. Fill the System

Add water to the system.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Maintain a 50-75cm center distance between each pot.
  • Alien Hydro recommends a watering frequency of one minute every hour.
  • Regularly check the filter for debris.
  • Minimal cleaning is required when using mineral-based nutrients.
  • Use ROOT ROT X™ to sterilize and keep roots healthy.
  • Flush the system between crop cycles with clean water and disinfectant.
  • Inspect sprinklers to ensure proper misting and water distribution.

What growing medium can I use with the RAIN system?+

The RAIN system is highly versatile and can be used with various growing mediums, including soil, coco coir, clay pebbles, and rockwool, allowing you to tailor the setup to your specific plant's needs.

Is a water tank included with this kit?+

No, a nutrient reservoir or tank is not included with the kit. You will need to provide your own tank with a minimum capacity of 30 gallons (120 liters). We recommend the GardenTank collapsible reservoirs for a convenient solution.

Can I expand this 1 Pot Kit later?+

Absolutely. The RAIN system is designed to be modular and fully expandable. You can easily add more pots and rows as your garden grows, scaling up to a larger configuration like the 4 Pot RAIN System or even larger custom setups.

How is this different from a DWC system?+

The RAIN system is a top-feed drip system that mimics rainfall, delivering nutrients from above. This differs from a Deep Water Culture (DWC) system, like the Alien RDWC, where roots are submerged directly in an oxygenated nutrient solution. The RAIN system's method helps wash away residual salts and is compatible with more types of media.

How does the system prevent root rot?+

The system has several features to promote healthy roots and prevent rot. The raised drainage grid ensures efficient water runoff to avoid waterlogging, while the copper-plated drain cover prevents roots from growing into the pipework and causing blockages.
