Who This Is For

  • You are moving your filtration outside the tent because the unit takes up critical vertical space you need for lights
  • You are installing this in a cramped cabinet because the dual-direction airflow allows for flexible hose routing

What We Found

  • The two-stage filtration is a game changer for odor control because it forces air through the carbon bed twice
  • We recommend this for anyone struggling with space because it functions perfectly when mounted outside the room

What Users Say

  • Buyers who moved their filters outside the room report gaining back enough space to lower their lights six inches
  • Growers who switched to this inline design say their duct runs are much easier to manage in tight setups

Active Air Inline Carbon Filter - 6" x 24"

Standard carbon filters are terminal — closed at one end, they must sit at the end of a duct run, which forces the filter (and often the fan) to occupy space inside the grow room. The Active Air Inline Carbon Filter breaks that constraint entirely. Because filtration occurs within the solid interior of the filter body rather than through an exterior mesh, this filter installs anywhere along an Active Air premium duct run — inside the room, outside it, in a cabinet above, or in an adjacent space. To maintain peak efficiency, it is recommended to use the matching Active Air Pre-Filter.

At 500 CFM through a 6" flange, the filter is sized for medium to large grow spaces and features a two-stage filtration design: air is filtered as it enters the filter body and again as it exits, for more thorough odor elimination than single-pass designs. Dual airflow direction means there's no wrong way to orient the filter in your duct line, simplifying installation in tight or unconventional spaces.

Features

🔧
True Inline Design

Installs anywhere along a duct run — not just at the end — so you can position the filter outside the grow room entirely, freeing up valuable interior space.

🔄
Two-Stage Filtration

Air passes through the carbon bed twice — once on entry and once on exit — providing more thorough VOC and odor adsorption than single-pass terminal filters.

💨
500 CFM Airflow Rating

Rated for 500 CFM through a 6" flange, matching the output of high-capacity inline fans used in medium to large grow room setups.

↔️
Dual Airflow Direction

Accepts airflow from either direction, eliminating orientation guesswork during installation and simplifying setups in tight or unconventional duct configurations.

📐
1" Carbon Bed Depth

Solid 1" carbon bed provides consistent contact time between air and activated carbon across the full rated airflow range for reliable odor control.

🌱
Ideal for Tents & Small Spaces

Designed specifically for grow tents and compact spaces where keeping equipment outside is a necessity. Pair it with an Active Air Hygro-Thermometer to keep a close eye on your environment.

FAQ

What makes an inline carbon filter different from a standard terminal filter? +

A terminal filter is closed at one end and must be placed at the terminus of the duct run — typically inside the grow room. An inline filter like this one is open at both ends and connects mid-duct, meaning it can be installed anywhere along the duct line. This allows you to mount the filter outside the grow room entirely, running a duct extension into the space to extract air, which is a significant advantage when interior space is limited.

How does two-stage filtration improve odor control? +

In a single-stage filter, air makes one pass through the carbon bed, and any odor molecules that aren't captured on that pass exit untreated. Two-stage filtration routes air through the carbon bed twice — on entry and exit — effectively doubling the contact opportunity between odor molecules and the activated carbon surface. This results in more complete VOC adsorption, particularly at higher airflow rates where dwell time in the carbon bed is shorter.

Can I mount this filter outside my grow tent? +

Yes — that's one of the primary advantages of inline filter design. Mount the filter in an adjacent space, attic, closet, or above the tent, then run a length of ducting from the filter into the grow area. The fan can also be positioned outside the room if desired, keeping both the filter and fan out of your grow space completely and maximizing usable interior square footage.

Does the dual airflow direction affect filtration performance? +

No — the two-stage internal design is bidirectional by nature, so filtration effectiveness is the same regardless of which end air enters from. This simplifies installation since you don't need to check or mark airflow direction before connecting your ducting, which is particularly useful in tight spaces where rotating a heavy filter is inconvenient.

How does this compare to the Active Air 6" x 16" terminal carbon filter? +

The Active Air 6" × 16" Carbon Filter is a terminal design rated at 400 CFM — it mounts at the end of a duct line, typically inside the grow room, and draws air through an exterior mesh. This inline model offers 500 CFM, two-stage filtration, and mid-duct placement flexibility. If interior space is tight or you want the filter and fan located outside the room, the inline model is the better choice.

What fan should I pair with this filter? +

Pair this filter with a 6" inline fan rated at or below 500 CFM for optimal odor control. Running a fan that exceeds the filter's rated airflow reduces dwell time in the carbon bed and allows odor molecules to pass through before being fully adsorbed. A variable-speed fan gives you the flexibility to dial back airflow during peak odor periods for more thorough filtration when it matters most.
