THROUGH THE Cultivator's LENS Hands-On Evaluation

  • You are upgrading to higher intensity lighting because your current canopy coverage creates thin growth at the edges.
  • You are moving to a multi-fixture setup because your existing power distribution is becoming a cable management mess.

  • The weight reduction makes a huge difference when you are hanging these in a full room alone.
  • The iLOC dimming is satisfying to use because it clicks firmly into each step without needing a controller.

  • Users who swapped out their older heavy fixtures say they cut their ceiling mounting time in half.
  • Growers who run these in larger rooms report that the heat output is significantly easier to manage.

Photobio MX2 680W Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

Growers running the original PHOTOBIO MX have spent years dialing in their recipe around its S4 spectrum — the MX2 delivers the same proven spectrum with meaningfully better numbers across the board. At 1,870 µmol/s PAR and 2.8 µmol/J efficacy, the MX2 produces 10% more photon output and 10% better efficiency than the original MX while drawing the same 680W input power. A 47% weight reduction and improved locking hinges make installation and long-term handling noticeably easier, especially across large multi-fixture deployments. If your facility requires even higher wattages, consider the Photobio TX2 800W S5 for increased coverage.

Everything that made the original MX a best-seller carries forward: the proprietary optical encapsulation process protecting the LED coating, the full-spectrum S4 recipe optimized for every growth stage, and onboard iLOC dimming that lets you adjust light output without an external controller. Standard 0-10V dimming keeps the MX2 compatible with all PHOTOBIO dimming interfaces and major third-party controllers. For high-voltage industrial applications, the Photobio CX 2125 850W is also available for 347-480V environments. The fixture ships with a PHOTO-LOC DC signal cable included and is fully compatible with both the optional PHOTOBIO AC Power Distribution Tree and DC Communications Tree cabling systems for multi-fixture installations.

Note: Please select the correct power cord configuration before ordering, and consult your licensed electrician for local code and standard compliance.

Features

Spectrum

Photobio MX2 LED 680W S4 full spectrum chart

The MX2 uses PHOTOBIO's proven S4 spectrum, a full-spectrum recipe with a 3500K–4000K color temperature optimized for every stage of plant development. The balanced white-light formulation is engineered to be easier on workers' eyes during extended exposure while still delivering the photon density needed to drive vigorous growth and flowering — all backed by a 2.8 µmol/J efficacy at 277V across the fixture's 1,870 µmol/s PAR output. To verify intensity at the canopy level, many growers utilize the Photobio Advanced Quantum PAR Meter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the MX2 compare to the original PHOTOBIO MX? +

The MX2 delivers 10% more photon output and 10% better efficacy than the original MX while consuming the same 680W of power. It's also 47% lighter and features improved locking hinges, while retaining the same S4 spectrum and overall recipe growers already rely on.

What does iLOC dimming let me do? +

iLOC (Integrated Light Output Control) lets you manually adjust the fixture's light output between five preset dim levels — 40%, 55%, 70%, 85%, and 100% — without needing an external controller. A sixth setting, PX Control, hands dimming control over to a connected Autopilot PX2 or higher controller.

Which power cord configuration should I choose? +

Select the cord that matches your facility's electrical service: 10′ 110-120V, 10′ 208-240V, or 10′ 277V (L7-15P or L7-20P locking). A No Cord option is also available if you're integrating with an existing PHOTOBIO AC Power Distribution Tree. Consult a licensed electrician to confirm local code compliance before ordering.

Does the MX2 work with my existing PHOTOBIO cabling infrastructure? +

Yes. The MX2 is fully compatible with the optional PHOTOBIO AC Power Distribution Tree for shared power drops and the DC Communications Tree for centralized dimming control. It also ships with a PHOTO-LOC DC signal cable included.

Is the MX2 eligible for utility rebates? +

Yes. The MX2 is ETL Listed and DLC Hort QPL Listed, which makes it eligible for energy efficiency rebate programs in many regions. Check with your local utility provider for specific rebate eligibility and requirements.

Can I control the MX2 with a third-party lighting controller? +

Yes. In addition to onboard iLOC dimming, the MX2 supports standard 0-10V dimming, making it compatible with all PHOTOBIO dimming interfaces as well as major third-party lighting controllers beyond the Autopilot PX series.
