LTL Controls CO2 Generator 8-Burner Propane (Low Altitude)

This low altitude model is designed for installations at elevations between 0 and 3,500 feet — which covers most growers in coastal, valley, and mid-elevation regions. If your facility is located above 3,500 feet, you'll need the high altitude version, which is calibrated for the lower ambient air pressure at higher elevations to ensure complete combustion and proper CO2 output. Using the wrong altitude version will result in inefficient burner performance.

Tank size depends on how frequently the generator runs and the duration of each cycle. Most growers use 20 lb (standard BBQ-style) or 40 lb propane tanks for shorter-term use, while higher-volume operations often connect to 100 lb or larger tanks to reduce swap frequency. The included gas regulator is compatible with standard propane tank fittings — confirm connection compatibility with your specific tank before first use.

A CO2 controller or timer is strongly recommended, though not included in the kit. Running a CO2 generator without automated control makes it difficult to maintain target CO2 levels — the generator will produce CO2 continuously if left on, which can push concentrations beyond the optimal 1200–1500 ppm range and waste fuel. A controller with a CO2 sensor automates on/off cycling to hold your target concentration accurately.

CO2 is heavier than air and will settle downward toward the canopy, so the generator should be mounted above the plant canopy using the included hanging chains and ceiling hooks — typically near the center of the grow room for the most even distribution. Avoid positioning it directly over plants where heat from the burners could cause stress. Ensure adequate clearance from flammable materials and sufficient room ventilation to prevent CO2 buildup beyond safe operating levels when lights are off.

Yes. LTL Controls offers this same 8-burner generator in a natural gas configuration for growers with access to a natural gas supply. For smaller setups, a 4-burner natural gas version is also available. Both fuel type variants are available in low and high altitude versions. Do not attempt to run a propane generator on natural gas or vice versa — the regulator and burner orifices are calibrated for a specific fuel type and are not interchangeable.

Always ensure your grow room has adequate airflow and that CO2 levels are monitored with a dedicated controller or monitor — CO2 concentrations above 5,000 ppm are hazardous to humans. Never run the generator with the room sealed and no monitoring in place, and always shut it off before entering the space if you have any concern about CO2 accumulation. Store propane tanks according to local fire code requirements, keep the generator away from flammable materials, and follow all installation instructions included with the kit.
