Who This Is For

  • You are auditing fixture performance because basic PAR meters do not show the UV and IR gaps in your spectrum.
  • You are verifying new LED installs because trusting manufacturer specs alone can lead to uneven crop development.

What We Found

  • The aluminum body feels more like a piece of lab gear than the plastic tools we usually see at this price point
  • The 3.5 inch touchscreen is snappy and makes jumping between spectral charts much faster during room audits

What Users Say

  • Facility managers say they stopped over-driving their fixtures once they saw the actual spectral map at the canopy
  • Users auditing large rooms report the 24 hour battery life keeps them from stopping to recharge mid-shift

Mammoth M400 PAR Meter & Spectrometer

Most PAR meters above $500 give you one number — PPFD — and nothing else. The Mammoth M400 gives you the full picture. Built around a high-precision CCD optical sensor and advanced spectroscopy system, the M400 delivers complete spectral analysis from 380–780nm, allowing you to verify the precision of high-performance fixtures like the Mammoth Lighting Nova Sun Series Full Spectrum LED Grow Light, while also providing PPFD readings within 5% of leading lab-grade meters, CRI, CCT, chromaticity, irradiance, and more — all on a 3.5" touchscreen in a field-ready aluminum body. Instruments with this capability typically cost $2,000 or more.

Developed in collaboration with Mammoth's manufacturing partners, the M400 combines a high-speed CPU with 2nm spectral bandwidth and a minimum integration time of 50μs — capable of resolving both high-intensity and low-intensity light sources with stable, repeatable accuracy. Whether you're dialing in a commercial grow with the Mammoth 10-Bar 930W UV Spectrum Enhancing LED, auditing fixture performance, or conducting lighting research, the M400 delivers lab-level data without lab-level cost or lab-level equipment.

A beta data export option is available via third-party software for per-nanometer spectral data. Note that functionality is limited, may not work on all computers, and support is not currently available during the beta phase.

Features

🔬
Lab-Level Optical Performance

2nm spectral bandwidth, ±0.5nm wavelength accuracy, and PPFD readings within 5% of leading professional meters. Full wavelength coverage from 380–780nm with stable, repeatable results across all light sources.

📡
High-Precision CCD Sensor

Minimum integration time of 50μs with adjustable integration settings for different environments. Detects both high-intensity and low-intensity light with consistent accuracy across all measurement conditions.

📊
Complete Spectral Analysis Suite

Goes far beyond basic PPFD. Measures CCT, lux, irradiance (W/m²), CRI (Ra, R1–R15), chromaticity coordinates, peak wavelength, and color ratio analysis—essential for growers integrating a Mammoth UV Upgrade Kit into their light recipe.

📱
3.5" IPS HD Touchscreen

Capacitive touchscreen with smooth, responsive operation and a clear data display. One-click measurement and quick start functionality keep the workflow fast during commercial testing or field audits.

🔋
24-Hour Battery Life

Up to 24 hours of continuous testing on a single charge. Built for full-day commercial workflows, facility audits, and extended research sessions without downtime between measurements.

🏗️
All-Aluminum Field-Ready Body

Lightweight, compact, all-aluminum alloy construction built for daily professional use. Designed to handle the demands of commercial grow environments, fixture testing, and research settings without compromising portability.

PPFD Accuracy Comparison

The M400 was independently tested against the Apogee — the industry's benchmark professional PAR meter — across five PPFD intensity ranges. The M400 came within 3.2% at every level. Competing meters deviated by as much as 29%.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the M400 compared to professional lab meters? +

The M400 delivers PPFD readings within 5% of leading professional-grade lab meters, with ±0.5nm wavelength accuracy and ±0.0015 chromaticity accuracy. These are performance figures typically found in instruments costing $2,000 or more.

What measurements does the M400 provide beyond PPFD? +

The M400 measures PPFD, full spectral distribution (380–780nm), color temperature (CCT), illuminance (lux), irradiance (W/m²), chromaticity coordinates (x,y), CRI (Ra, R1–R15), peak wavelength, half-width, relative spectral power distribution, and red/green/blue color ratio analysis — a complete suite of lighting metrics in one device.

Can I export spectral data from the M400? +

Yes — per-nanometer spectral data export is available through third-party beta software. Functionality is currently limited and may not work on all computers. Support is not available during the beta phase, so this feature should be considered supplemental rather than a core workflow tool at this time.

Is the M400 suitable for commercial grow facility audits? +

Yes. The M400's 24-hour battery life, compact aluminum body, and one-click measurement workflow are designed specifically for extended professional use. It can audit multiple fixtures, specialized inter-canopy LED bar light setups, or entire grow rooms in a single session without recharging.

Does the M400 work with all grow light types? +

Yes. The adjustable integration settings and high-precision CCD sensor allow the M400 to accurately measure both high-intensity and low-intensity light sources — including the Nova Sun Series Full Spectrum LED, CMH, HPS, T5, and metal halide fixtures — with stable, repeatable readings across all source types.

What is included with the M400? +

The M400 ships with the meter itself and a free wand accessory. The wand extends your reach for canopy-level measurements without disturbing plant positions, allowing you to fine-tune settings via the Mammoth Lighting Master Controller based on real-time data.
