THROUGH THE Cultivator's LENS Product Evaluation

  • You are using organic amendments because your living soil program depends on healthy biology to thrive.
  • You are brewing bio-teas because you want to protect beneficial bacteria from harsh tap water chemicals.

  • The customized flow restrictor slows water down for full contact time with the filter media.
  • The granulated catalytic activated carbon removes up to 99 percent of chlorine and chloramines.

  • Growers who installed this filter on their garden line say they stopped losing beneficial microbes to untreated tap water.
  • Gardeners who use compost teas report more consistent results after removing chlorine and chloramines from their water.

HydroLogic GroGreen Garden Hose Filter 11,000 Gallon Capacity (2GPM)

Unfiltered tap water can quietly undo the work of building healthy soil biology — chlorine and chloramines kill off the beneficial bacteria that organic amendments, compost, and bio-teas depend on. While the HydroLogic smallBoy Dechlorinator is an excellent choice for dedicated garden lines, the HydroLogic GroGreen Garden Hose Filter is built to solve that directly at the tap, using a customized flow restrictor to slow water down just enough for full contact time with its filtration media, removing up to 99% of chlorine and chloramines along with sediment, rust, silt, mercury, lead, and PCBs.

By protecting beneficial bacteria rather than stripping it out with the water, the GroGreen helps organic growers get more consistent results from compost teas, soil amendments, and living soil programs. If your source water requires even lower TDS levels for sensitive nutrients, you may prefer a reverse osmosis option like the HydroLogic Stealth-RO150. This GroGreen unit attaches directly to a standard garden hose, delivering up to 2 GPM and rated for 11,000 gallons of filtered capacity — roughly a full year of use at 30 gallons per day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the GroGreen filter remove from my water?+

The GroGreen removes up to 99% of chlorine and chloramines, plus sediment, rust, silt, mercury, lead, and PCBs, using KDF85 granulated catalytic activated carbon.

Why is chlorine removal important for organic growing?+

Chlorine and chloramines kill beneficial bacteria that organic compost, soil amendments, and bio-teas rely on. For higher flow applications, the HydroLogic TALLboy Dechlorinator provides similar microbial protection at a larger scale.

How is the GroGreen installed?+

It attaches directly to a standard garden hose, so no special plumbing or tools are needed to get started.

What flow rate can I expect?+

The filter supports up to 2 GPM, with a customized flow restrictor that slows water just enough to maximize contact time with the filtration media for better contaminant reduction.

How long will the filter last?+

The GroGreen is rated for an 11,000-gallon filtered capacity, which works out to roughly 30 gallons per day over a full year of typical use.

Is this filter suitable for organic soil-based growing?+

Yes — it's specifically designed to protect beneficial bacteria, making it well suited for growers using organic compost, soil amendments, and compost teas.
