  • You are upgrading your pre-filtration stage because sediment buildup in your supply line keeps shortening the life of your expensive RO membranes.
  • You are replacing current filters because a pressure drop in your system indicates the old cartridges are already clogged and restricting water flow.

  • We recommend tracking the pressure gauge closely because these filters load up faster than you expect if your water source is dirty.
  • Swapping these monthly saves you from burning out your RO pump by forcing it to pull against a restricted intake.

  • Operators with high-sediment water sources say they stopped blowing through expensive RO membranes after adding this pre-filter.
  • Facilities using this on their industrial RO units say the monthly change schedule keeps their flow rates consistent year-round.

HydroLogic Sediment Pre-Filter Poly Spun 5 Micron (20" x 4.5")

Unfiltered sediment is one of the fastest ways to shorten the life of an expensive RO pump or membrane. The HydroLogic Sediment Pre-Filter is a 20" melt-blown polypropylene cartridge rated to 5 microns, built to strip out silt, rust, dirt, and other suspended solids before they ever reach the more delicate — and costly — components downstream.

Installed in the gray housing beneath the HydroLogic Evolution-RO1000 Reverse Osmosis System, this filter delivers OEM-level protection for the RO pump and helps extend membrane life by catching particulate at the pre-filtration stage. The same filter is also widely used on HydroLogic's Industrial and Heavy-Industrial RO systems paired with CIP (clean-in-place) units, where it captures membrane scale build-up removed during cleaning cycles.

For consistent protection, HydroLogic recommends monthly replacement — or sooner if the filter-in/filter-out pressure delta exceeds 10%, a sign the cartridge is loading up and starting to restrict flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this filter remove from my water? +

This sediment pre-filter removes silt, rust, dirt, and other suspended solids. This level of high-capacity filtration is the same standard utilized in the HydroLogic BIGboy Dechlorinator & Sediment System to ensure clean water for large-scale applications.

Where does this filter go in a HydroLogic RO system? +

On Commercial Series RO systems, it's located in the gray housing positioned under the RO unit, where it pre-filters water before it reaches the pump and membranes.

Why does sediment filtration matter for my RO system? +

Sediment can wear down and damage costly components like the RO pump and membranes. Even for smaller setups, systems like the HydroLogic Stealth-RO300 300GPD Reverse Osmosis System rely on dedicated sediment stages to protect their internal components from premature failure.

How often should I replace this filter? +

HydroLogic recommends monthly replacement, or sooner if the filter-in/filter-out pressure delta exceeds 10%, which indicates the cartridge is loading up and restricting flow.

Can this filter be used with Industrial or Heavy-Industrial RO systems? +

Yes — it's also commonly used on HydroLogic's Industrial and Heavy-Industrial RO systems paired with CIP (clean-in-place) units, where it captures scale build-up removed from the membrane during cleaning.

What size filter is this? +

This is a standard 20" filter cartridge sized for 4.5" housings, with a 5-micron rating for ultra-fine sediment capture.
