System Setup Steps:

1. Prepare Pots

Attach the necessary fittings to the pots.

2. Connect the System

Use piping to connect the pots and the header pot to establish the recirculating network.

3. Install Air System

Set up the air pump and connect it to the air stones in the pots.

4. Integrate Pumps

Install the water pump(s) for recirculation and chilling (if applicable).

5. Set Up Nutrient Tank

Connect the nutrient tank to the system.

6. Fill the System

Add water to the system.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Maintain a 50-75cm center distance between each pot.
  • Alien Hydro recommends a watering frequency of one minute every hour.
  • Regularly check the filter for debris.
  • Minimal cleaning is required when using mineral-based nutrients.
  • Use ROOT ROT X™ to sterilize and keep roots healthy.
  • Flush the system between crop cycles with clean water and disinfectant.

What growing mediums can I use with the RAIN system?+

The RAIN system is highly versatile. Because its top-feed design effectively washes away residual salts, it's compatible with a wide range of mediums, including soil, coco coir, clay pebbles, and rockwool.

How does this system prevent root rot?+

The system is engineered for excellent drainage and aeration. The raised drainage grid in each pot, combined with the automated and timed watering cycles, prevents the medium from becoming waterlogged, ensuring roots have constant access to oxygen.

Is a nutrient reservoir included with this kit?+

No, a nutrient reservoir or tank is not included. You will need to supply your own. We recommend a tank with a minimum capacity of 70 gallons (280 Liters) for this 18-pot kit.

Can I expand or change the layout of this system later?+

Absolutely. All Alien Hydroponics systems are modular. The glue-free fittings and snap-on pipes make it easy to reconfigure your layout or add more pots as your needs grow. If you require a larger setup from the start, consider the RAIN System 24 Pot Kit.

What is the difference between the RAIN and the RDWC systems?+

The main difference is the hydroponic method. The RAIN system is a top-feed drip system that mimics rainfall, making it great for various media. The Alien RDWC is a Recirculating Deep Water Culture system where roots are submerged in a highly oxygenated nutrient solution, which is ideal for soilless grows and rapid root development.

What is the recommended watering schedule?+

The manufacturer recommends starting with a watering frequency of one minute every hour. However, the ideal schedule can vary based on your plant type, growth stage, and medium. The included cycle timer allows you to easily adjust this to find the perfect balance for your garden.
