The CenturionPro 3.0+ is the lineup's commercial-scale hybrid trimmer. Two of them, fed by a conveyor with shared infeed and outfeed stations, become the 3.0+ Tandem System. Throughput roughly doubles. So does the question of whether that throughput justifies the added footprint, power draw, and operator count. This guide breaks down where tandem makes sense, what the single-versus-tandem math actually looks like, and the facility requirements that decide the answer.
What "tandem" means on a CenturionPro line
A single 3.0+ is a standalone hybrid wet/dry bud trimmer with one tumbler and one operator feeding the infeed end. The 3.0+ Commercial Tandem Bud Trimming System ties two 3.0+ machines together with a conveyor between them and a structural frame that aligns both. The conveyor moves flower from the discharge of the first trimmer directly into the infeed of the second.
Operators run tandems in one of two modes:
- Serial (two-pass). Flower runs through trimmer 1 for an initial pass, then directly into trimmer 2 for a finish pass. This is the higher-quality mode: the first machine handles bulk leaf removal, the second cleans up what the first missed. Total throughput is the same as a single 3.0+ because each pound passes through twice, but trim quality is noticeably tighter than a one-pass run at the same reel speed.
- Parallel (split-feed). Two operators feed independently, each at their own infeed station. Conveyor is bypassed or used as a discharge aggregator. Throughput roughly doubles relative to a single 3.0+ at the cost of slightly looser trim quality.
Most commercial operators end up running the tandem in parallel for the bulk of a harvest and switching to serial mode for premium-grade material or strain types that need a tighter trim. The system supports both without mechanical changes.

3.0+ specs (per machine)
The "+" in 3.0+ refers to the upgraded chassis introduced after the original 3.0. Each unit in the tandem is identical to a standalone 3.0+ hybrid trimmer.
- Throughput (single unit): 60 to 80 pounds per hour wet, 12 to 16 pounds per hour dry. Wet is dramatically faster than dry because flower flows through the tumbler more readily when it still has water content.

- Blower: 6 HP blower per machine. The tandem uses two, one per unit.
- Power: 240V single-phase or 208/220V three-phase. Each unit pulls roughly 15 to 20 amps under load.
- Variable speed: Included on the 3.0+ as part of the upgrade over the original 3.0. Adjustable reel speed is part of what makes serial-mode tandem operation viable.
- Footprint (single unit): roughly 96 inches long by 38 inches wide by 50 inches tall. The tandem with conveyor doubles the length and adds maneuvering space at both ends.

Throughput math: single vs tandem
Run the numbers on a representative 100-pound wet harvest to see where the tandem earns its footprint. Assume 70 pounds per hour effective throughput on a single 3.0+ (mid-range of the spec window) and 130 pounds per hour effective on a tandem running parallel mode (slight loss vs theoretical doubling due to load-balancing between two operators).

The break-even is roughly the 250- to 500-pound range per harvest. Below that, a single 3.0+ finishes in one shift without operator strain. Above 500 pounds, the tandem starts saving entire shifts, not just hours. Two more variables shift this math:
- Wet vs dry. Dry-mode throughput is roughly 20 percent of wet throughput. Operations that trim wet exclusively get the full tandem benefit. Operations that include a dry-trim cleanup pass lose part of that gain.
- Operator skill. A trained team holds 70 pounds per hour on a single 3.0+. A new team typically lands at 50 to 60. Tandem mode requires two skilled operators in parallel mode; throughput drops disproportionately if one is slower than the other (the conveyor becomes a bottleneck).

Operator count and facility fit
A 3.0+ tandem is not a one-operator system. Counting the trim, kief management, and infeed/outfeed, expect this staffing pattern:
- Two infeed operators in parallel mode, one at each machine's infeed station. They handle bud presentation, feed rate, and reel-speed adjustments per strain or stem density.
- One inspector / quality control at the conveyor discharge, sorting catch material into grades (A-bud, B-bud, popcorn, reject) and emptying the kief trays from both machines.
- One floater handling bin rotation, dry buffer management, and cleaning supplies. On a long shift this role saves the other three from breaking pace.
Three operators can run the tandem in serial mode (one feed, one transfer/inspect, one outfeed/grade). Two-operator parallel mode is possible but compresses the inspector's job into the outfeed operator's role, which limits the speed at which catch material can be sorted.
Facility-side requirements:
- Floor space: Minimum 240 inches long by 90 inches wide of clear floor, accounting for 4 to 5 feet of working space on both sides of the machine line. The tandem itself is roughly 200 inches end-to-end with the conveyor between trimmers.
- Power: Two 240V outlets within reach, plus separate outlets for the two blowers. Total continuous draw at peak load is roughly 40 to 50 amps across the four electrical paths. Most commercial trim rooms are wired to handle this; smaller facilities may need a service upgrade.
- Ventilation: Two 6 HP blowers move significant air. Either route the discharge through a cyclone separator into the room (with strong room exhaust) or into a centralized dust collection system. Indoor venting without a separator coats every surface in trim within a week.
- Floor type: Concrete or sealed industrial flooring. The tandem is heavy enough (~600 to 700 pounds assembled) that any floor unevenness shows up as conveyor misalignment.
For operators evaluating whether a 3.0+ tandem fits the facility, the practical questions are: do you have a 20-foot run of clear floor with 240V available at both ends, do you have three to four trained operators per shift, and does your harvest size hit at least 250 pounds wet per session? If any answer is no, a single 3.0+ or a smaller-tier machine is usually the better fit.
When tandem makes sense (and when it doesn't)
Tandem makes sense when:
- Harvest size routinely exceeds 250 pounds wet per session.
- Trim time is the bottleneck in the post-harvest workflow (drying space is rotating faster than trim throughput).
- Labor cost per trimmed pound matters more than capital cost. Tandems amortize over many seasons.
- The trim room has the floor space and power for the full system.
- Three to four trained operators are available per shift, not borrowed from cultivation.
Tandem does not make sense when:
- Harvest size is below 250 pounds and unlikely to grow in the near term. A single 3.0+ finishes most operations in a shift, and a Gladiator handles the same range with less footprint.
- The facility's bottleneck is drying, curing, or packaging rather than trim. Adding tandem throughput in front of an unchanged downstream creates pile-ups.
- The operator pool is small or untrained. Tandem throughput requires two coordinated trim crews; one slow operator cuts effective throughput by more than half.
- Capital budget rules out the higher up-front cost. The tandem is roughly 1.7 to 1.8 times the price of a single 3.0+ plus conveyor; for some operators, two single 3.0+ machines deployed in different rooms is the better answer.
The two-single-machine alternative deserves its own consideration. In facilities with two harvest rooms running staggered cycles, two standalone 3.0+ machines (one per room) avoid moving wet flower between buildings and reduce single-point-of-failure risk. The tandem wins when all material flows through one trim station and conveyor-coupled efficiency matters more than redundancy.
